Houghton Family Beach Celebration and Potluck

Thanks everyone who came out to join us for the celebration and potluck on Saturday.  I think everyone had fun and we certainly enjoyed gathering to share stories about the late family that we love.   Above is a photo stitch of 6 pictures from my phone that I put together in Photoshop.  Click and zoom with the + (plus on your keyboard) to see details (use minus on most browsers to return to normal).  Special thanks to Lucia Orlando and Melody Appleton and everybody who had a hand in organizing.

There are so many people who shared so many special parts of their lives.  I talked to Jeff Nordahl who went with David to La Paz in 2006.  I went with David on the same trip in the late 90s and he said that one of the few things left on his “bucket list” (things you want to do before you die) was to see a Whale Shark.  I didn’t know this until Saturday, but David checked off this item with Jeff and company in 2006.  Jeff writes:

Dave took the photo (above) with his new camera and housing.  The Whale Shark appeared out of nowhere just before we were about to descend at El Bajo to view hammerheads.  He circled us for 30 minutes.  He was just as curious about us as we were of him/her.  This was the first whale shark Dave had witnessed, and he was really thrilled about it.  Afterwards, we just floated on the surface for about 30 minutes waiting for the boat to pick us up – and we all were the happiest people on earth while we floated and reflected on what had just happened.

Incredible day, and no better people to share it with (Dave and our group)!

Thanks for sharing, Jeff.  More stuff coming in future posts, including a song from the family’s friends Ron and Song Goodman.

I’m so glad you’re going to post the song that Ron and Song composed. It was beautiful and I would really like to hear it again. Thanks, John.

  2. Ron Goodman says:

    Hi John,

Hopefully you got the words I sent. Song and I planned to record the song and send you a copy… unfortunately, a couple days after the beach event, Song cut her finger badly and hasn’t played guitar since. The stitches are out and she’s healing well, so, perhaps we’ll “return to the studio” soon.

We think of you and your family every day..
