About

UPDATE: 7/9/11:  This blog has been repurposed as a memorial to my brother, David Houghton, who died with his family in a plane crash on 7/7/11.  I am his younger brother, John Houghton.  This blog used to be the voice of MobileCast Media.  All of the old posts have been taken down and the site is now dedicated to the memory of the David Houghton family.

    Dear John,
On behalf of the DeLaveaga school community, please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your brother and his family. I knew them both through school, and of course knew their boys well. They were a loving family, and will all be greatly missed by all who knew them.

I am very sorry for your loss.

    Sincerely,

    Dear John:

I am the father of a fellow cub scout who knew Ryan, Dede and David thru his participation in Cub Scout Troop 618. My son participated both at Daddy and me (last fall ) and more recently Mommy and me (May 2011) campouts with David, Dede and Ryan – both in Pico Blanco (close to Big Sur). They were adventurous, and good-hearted people who were well liked by the troop. Dave and Dede contributed as den leaders to the success of our troop. Please accept my family’s condolences for your loss- we will miss them

    Respectfully,
    Tom Crahen

  4. On behalf of McCampbell Analytical, Inc. we extend our deepest condolences to the Houghton family during this difficult time. John thank you for sharing all the great memories of their life, we can’t imagine the pain and grief you all are going through. We’ve worked with David & A+ Environmental Solutions for several years now and would like to send a donation on their behalf to HSA & Twin Lakes Church but we are a bit clueless as to what the best way is of sending it would be. Is there a contact or direct link where we can send the donation to? Please advise and forgive us for our ignorance.

I was vacationing in Santa Cruz and sat an the bench overlooking the water that is dedicated to David and his family. The bench touch me as did the happy birthday to Luke that was hung there. My daughter and I sat for a while and thought of the beautiful family. I wish you well and hope you can live freely knowing that you were so very fortunate to have know and loved them. Thank you for giving me the oppurtunity to know them just a little. God Bless

Don’t know why I was thinking about David and his family again today.

I worked with David at Crown College (UCSC), during a rather tumultuous time in late 80′s.
David had a depth and maturity of kindness within him. I remember him doing difficult things…. like ending a birds suffering while shielding his students from the harshness of what was necessary. I remember a student saying and directing unkind action toward David in heated situation and David not trading insults, not striking back … David had an inner strength and calm… and I/we respected him for that. He was a good role model.
Fortunately, SC memories not all drama… a number of good memories too!

David went out of his way to make things happen for the students at UCSC. He was the original Can-Doer! …Beach bonfire on chilly and starry SC night at Twin Lakes State Beach; spelunking in Cave Gulch area; bike adventure to Pigeon Point Light Station (and overnight! :-) … maybe it is this cold East Coast day that is making me recall these specific adventures… — – fun, memorable, but definitely chilly.

Seriously, and most importantly, I/we just wanted to let his family and friends know … that many of us were touched in positive way by David … your son, brother, friend was respected and appreciated…. and his inspiring CAN DO spirit endures!

    Be well – Brett
