Capitola Jr. Life Guard Paddle Out for Luke and Ryan

Above – Paddle out earlier today as Capitola Jr. Life Guards pay tribute to Luke and Ryan.

Here in this coastal town, when someone is lost, we have what is called a paddle out.  Everybody grabs their surf boards and paddles out for a gathering a few hundred yards out.  Luke and Ryan were involved in Jr. Life Guards.  According to Capitola Beach Life Guard Jon Gamble, “It was really great the kids and some instructors led the paddle out….. [it] was emotional but ended with everybody hooting and hollering and splashing!”  I’m glad they were able to get some energy out and do something special for Luke and Ryan.  I’m sure they were there in spirit.  Photo by Jon Gamble who is a friend of David Houghton’s and an employee of A+ Environmental Solutions.  I was a junior life guard when I was their age and took part in competitions on the same beaches.

We welcome any special thoughts and remembrances for Luke and Ryan from their friends.  Please leave comments below.

Note:  If there are other events, please let me know so that I can tell the family.  If we’re available, we would like to attend.  Email is john at johnhoughton dot com, cell 650 888-1816.  BTW, funeral services are tomorrow.

What a wonderful tradition…a positive way to express the emotions that are often hard to understand. The LOVE that was, and continues on for the HOUGHTON FAMILY is going full circle!
