Inspiration From Steve Jobs

I was inspired by something I saw on the news tonight about Steve Jobs of Apple.  As you know, Steve is stepping down, presumably for health reasons.  Steve said (via NBC, picture also via NBC):

“Remembering that you are going to die, is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking that you have something to lose.   You are already naked.  There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

My brother knew this.  That’s why he lived each day to its fullest.

I remember training as a singer.  The hardest part about singing is stage fright, and I get it (more with opera vs jazz).   After a while, having passed the supposed half way mark of my life, I had to tell myself, “Your life is half over – if you can’t sing now, when are you going to sing?  What do you have to lose?”

]Fear is a good thing in certain situations but fear is a bad thing when we’re presented with opportunity.  You’re going to make a speech, start a business, sing a song or do something great.  You’ve got to overcome!  Don’t listen to fear!  David would tell you that you’re awesome.  Go and do your thing!  Live your life like there is no tomorrow.  That’s what my brother David did.  I need more of that and I’m getting it – from him.  I love you David.

Thank you John, and very well said. Because we never know what tomorrow brings it is good to remember our yesterdays and how they will impact or influence our today. Moving on is not easy, but something we all must do, for some it is sooner than for others, but you are right it is or will be a must. The last few days I have come across alot of things from the yesterdays and the lives of DeDe, David and the boys. Two love letters she wrote to him, his certifications (many) for his many accomplishments. Lots of outdoor gear that they all used in their many adventures. Hats of many reasons and seasons….yes they all did LIVE and have been great examples for us all. I love each and every one of them for many special reasons, I love David for his loving of my daughter and for sharing his two young boys with me. I love them all for showing me how special each person is and for teaching me to appreciate all in life. I love you for being here for me and for loving so much in your very special way.

  2. I want to share this song by Jude Bowerman I bought his CD after a performance in Nevada City and this was my favorite song…

\Life Goes On\ \Barbecues all summer long girls on the beach and my friends and me gettin’ together playing b-ball in the street. Parties goin’ on every night least that’s what I remember nothin’ but sisters and brothers good old friends and lovers. Life goes on. Don’t see my friends as much anymore got out of school, left for that urban war some got married, some moved away yet there’s still some others, I see most every day. But the distances doesn’t matter, no I can tell you why got a phone call out of no where Paulie’s got a new girl, still the same old guy. Life goes on. Gettin’ older now new friends come and gone but the ones I made way back when are still the friends I rely on. Later on, when we’re old and gray and we look back on the lives we’ve spun the best memories will remain days spent with my friends, playin’ under the sun. Life goes on.\

I thought this was fitting of the stories I had the privilege of hearing at the beach party yesterday. Thanks for including us and we look forward to future memories ahead. Much love to all, Nora Mae
