Doing What’s Important In Life

Left – Photo of the late family in Egypt.

It’s good to find out what’s important to you in life, and then to go and do it.  For my brother and his family, they loved to travel.  They loved to experience new cultures and get off the beaten path, right down to the locals, to see how they lived and played.  Having traveled a lot before and after having kids, David commented to me that taking young kids along works wonders toward breaking down cultural barriers.  Before kids, David and DeDe would stay in hotels and and go diving.  With kids along, they were eating with and spending time with the locals.

My brother and his family didn’t watch TV, so David didn’t know who Anthony Bourdain is, but I liken my brother to Anthony.  David and the family loved eating the local food.  In some of the places they visited, insects are a main part of the diet and I have pictures of them eating roasted insects.

Travel is what they loved dong and they did a lot of it. God bless them for living their dream.

    Dear John,

I am so sorry that I was unaware of your loss – I found out today as I was remembering you and those good days when we worked at Oracle. My sincere condolenses for your loss. Your brother – like you – and his family are very special persons and lived a full life dedicated to service to each other and to others, and clearly lived the life most aspire to live. One thing I do know is that love and family relationships are forever and I am comforted to know that there is a reunion beyond this mortal life and that you and David will be together again. My prayers and best wishes are with you, your family and DeDe’s family.
    All my best,

    Ken Hayes
